10K Sprint Day 1: Fixing the Social Foundation

July 8, 2026

Welcome to Day 1 of the 10K Sprint—our challenge to ship one update every single day until Alavita reaches 10,000 downloads!

To kick off the sprint, we went straight to the core distribution layer of the app: the social network.

The Purpose

In The Cold Start Problem, Andrew Chen talks about the concept of the Atomic Network—the smallest self-sustaining network that can survive on its own. For a fitness app, that network consists of you and your training partners. If you can't easily add friends or see their training activity, the network dies before it starts.

We had social features in place, but they weren't working properly. Specifically, users were receiving notifications for friend requests but had no option to accept or decline them within the app.

What We Shipped

  1. Notification Action Center: Added inline "Accept" and "Decline" buttons to the notifications screen for incoming friend requests.
  2. Real-time Friendship Syncing: Integrated real-time Supabase state updates so that when you accept a request, the friendship status immediately updates on both users' ends.
  3. Interactive Friend Profiles: Enabled tap-through links on the feed so you can click any user's avatar to view their training history and profile sheet.
  4. Saved Workouts Integration: Fixed feed post actions so you can tap a bookmark button on a friend's post to copy their entire workout routine to your local planner.

The Goal

By making the social loop frictionless, we build the foundation for organic word-of-mouth. When users can easily connect with their workout buddies and exchange routines, engagement becomes self-sustaining.

Tomorrow, we move onto making these workouts highly spreadable outside the app. Stay tuned!
